Radsport von Hacht is a family-run bike retailer based in Hamburg. Founded in 1979, the company has grown steadily over the years. Today, it is home to a large and diverse team, with each member bringing their own cycling background and individual areas of expertise.
Radsport von Hacht also has close ties to the bike brand STEVENS, which was founded in 1991 by the von Hacht brothers. To this day, the business continues to be run by successive generations of the von Hacht family.
Photo: Radsport von HachtWho are you, and how did you originally get into bike sizing and bike fitting?
Merle: As assistant to the management team, I’m involved in the day-to-day operations of the business. For example, I help develop our marketing activities, and I’ve also sold my fair share of bikes. As is often the case in a family-run business, I’m involved in many different areas.
Finding the right frame size and riding position has always been an important part of providing good advice, especially when it comes to high-end and performance-oriented bikes. We therefore wanted to complement our team’s experience with a precise measurement system and place an even stronger focus on achieving the best individual fit during the consultation process.
After all, it’s not just about choosing a bike you like. It also needs to suit your body, intended use and personal requirements in the long term.
Sebastian: I’ve been working in sales at Radsport von Hacht for around 16 years. What I really enjoy is getting people excited about cycling and helping them get out on the road.

Merle: We were looking for something that would complement our existing expertise. We have a highly experienced team with many years of specialist knowledge, and they can often spot a lot just at a glance. But with the Smartfit software, we’ve found that it’s much easier to involve customers in the process and help them understand the recommendations. The visual presentation is especially helpful. For us, it’s also an important part of the service to be able to give customers something tangible to take away with them after the consultation.
Sebastian: For us, Smartfit simply means that we can work even more precisely and put an even stronger focus on the customer. We’ve been using Smartfit for just over a year now, since 2025, but we had already had our eye on it for quite some time. What really convinced us was the accuracy of the camera and the data-driven results — and ultimately, that’s what convinces the customer as well.

Sebastian: We integrate Smartfit directly into the consultation process. We use the Q2 system particularly often for road bikes and gravel bikes, as well as for high-end e-bikes and trekking bikes. The measurements allow us to confirm the right frame size and fit, and to tailor the riding position to the individual customer. This means we can discuss different options together and find a solution that matches their personal needs.
Merle: The results from the software give customers additional confidence in their purchase decision. What is especially helpful is the ability to configure the riding position and show it visually. This makes the product more tangible for the customer, makes the consultation process easier, and gives both our sales team and our customers greater confidence in the final choice.
